Dr. Noor Afshan Shafiq—author and compiler of Tafseer-e-Noor ul Quran—comes from a well-educated and respectable family, where her parents fostered both academic excellence and strong religious values. Alongside her pursuit of knowledge, she developed a deep passion for understanding the Quran beyond its recitation.
She earned her MBBS with distinction and specialized in gynecology, dedicating over 25 years to her profession while fulfilling her roles as a wife and mother. However, her quest for a deeper comprehension of the Quran led her to enroll in a recognized institute of Quranic learning 15 years ago. Realizing the need for full-time commitment, she voluntarily left her medical career to immerse herself in Quranic studies.
Over three and a half years, she successfully completed courses in:
- Taleem-ul-Quran (Tajweed, word-by-word translation, Quranic vocabulary, detailed Tafseer, Arabic grammar, and Seerat-un-Nabi ﷺ)
- Fiqh-e-Islami
- Hadith Studies
During the final phase of her studies, she faced a serious illness requiring surgery and extensive treatment. Despite the challenges, her unwavering determination allowed her to complete her course with remarkable distinction.
With the desire to spread the message of Almighty Allah to others by creating an easier understanding of the holy Quran, she along with her few colleagues started a Quran Academy at home where one course of ‘Taleem ul Quran’ has been completed successfully with highly encouraging participation and the next one is being conducted online with even higher number of students. During the conduct of her first course, Dr Noor Afshan Shafiq was endowed with the sublime thought of compiling a Tafseer ul Quran, which should present a comprehensive and authentic references from Hadith and narrations of most renowned ‘Mufassarin e Quran, while ensuring unbiased and mostly agreed upon point of view on Quranic injunctions, issues of Fiqh and jurisprudence. She has worked day and night in the past 11 years and kept a consistent focus in her research on Arabic language, Quran, Hadees, Seerat Nabwi (SAW), Tafaseer e Quran, Islamic history and related subjects to compile ‘Tafseer e Noor ul Quran’.
She approached one of the most renowned publishing houses, ‘ Darus Salam Publications’, known for printing and distributing high quality and authentic books on Islam including Tafseer. Seerat, Islamic History, Islamic Fiqh, Jurisprudence and related subjects. After thorough scrutiny of it’s text, context references, correctness in line with the established traditions of Tafseer e Quran by the worthy research scholars, editors and Muftis of Darus Salam working under the kind and able leadership of Darus Salam’s founder and chief editor Mr Hafiz Abdul Malik Mujahid, Tafsee e Noor ul Quran has now been printed in Eight Volumes and shall soon be available at all the leading bookshops in Pakistan.

This Tafseer has been organised in a sequential manner to make it easier for the reader to first understand the reason/ background for the revelation of each Ayah, then word by word urdu translation and also its literal translation is written under each Ayah, then the meaning and actual message of Almighty Allah enshrined in that Ayah is explained in detail by quoting Sahih Ahadees and also the narrations extracted from well known Tafaseer. The Gist of each Surah is given at conclusion of Surah and to reinforce the learning/ understanding, a few questions pertaining to the Surah are asked at the end, which shall provide a means of self assessment and incite more interest in readers’ mind to further explore and understand the message of our Creator so that we can mould lives and actions as per His guidance and commands.
